Alongside the announcement of her new album, Yellow, Emma-Jean Thackray has dropped her latest single, ‘Say Something’. The effortless funk that oozes from everything she releases is out in full-force here, dropping us into a mixture of Rhodes chords and shuffling hi-hat, before expanding into a disco-ready groove, layered with keyboard improvisation, deep house influence and her own powerful vocal. As if we weren’t in exciting enough territory already, the track takes another twist as the entry of chunky synths guides us towards a chromatic synth solo and an exponentially building jam of an ending. This is undoubtedly Thackray’s best work yet, which makes us dream of July 2^nd and the release of her album. -Dan Peeke
